Important customer information
March 2021
Dear Customer,
the labeling obligation for disposable beverage cups - the so-called "Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD)" of the European Union - will soon come into force as a new packaging declaration obligation in order to counteract nature and water pollution.
Specifically, EU Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/2151, dated December 17, 2020, requires standardized "PRODUCT CONTAINS PLASTIC" labeling for a whole range of packaging - including beverage cups - regardless of the percentage of plastic content.
This applies to all corresponding products Europe-wide from 03 July 2021.
The labeling introduced is intended to inform consumers of the presence of plastic in the product, the waste disposal routes to be avoided for this product, as well as the negative impact of this pollution on the environment or other inappropriate means of waste disposal of the product.
All you need to know
Cups delivered to customers before July 03, 2021, may be sold in this European member state without labeling until July 04, 2022.
Cups that are reshipped and sold (placed on the market) in another EU member state must have the labeling after July 03, 2021 - regardless of the delivery date.
The regulation applies to all types of non-reusable cups from which beverages are served, whether with or without a filling line, made of plastic or cardboard, and also applies to all so-called "plastic-free" cups. (Note from the management: There are no completely plastic-free cups without plastic content and therefore without mandatory labeling).
The labeling must be applied in the respective national language, but additional languages are permitted. Marking of the sub-packaging is not sufficient.
Upon request, we will add the required labeling for you already now, taking into account all specifications. Depending on our producers as the manufacturers, this may also lead to an adjustment of the layout and necessary new clichés. Below the future additional markings and colors for your knowledge:
To ensure that you are on the safe side legally, our technical consultants and print specialists check the relevant prints and the implementation of the legal requirements for you.
If you have any further questions about the new labeling obligation (... which, by the way, also applies to hygiene pads, wet wipes and tobacco products with filters ...), we will be happy to answer them at any time.
